The first — Gulf War Illness, acquired during the Gulf War, a condition the government denied existed for decades and in some quarters still does. The second — being thrown and trampled by a 1,200 pound thoroughbred that had an undiagnosed neuro-condition, sustaining 18 broken bones including vertebrae and his sternum. He walked to the fence, popped his shoulder back in, went inside, had a beer, took a shower, and calmly told his wife they should probably go to the emergency room. The morning after emergency spinal surgery he lapped the bed tower.
This talk is about preparation, partnership, and the person standing beside you when quitting would have been the easier choice.
